One of the things that has been a constant for almost the past 2 years is my shooting Bruce Springsteen & The E St Band. Every night is pretty much the same. Media lineup at 7pm at whatever venue they are playing that night. Wait around to be escorted inside. Shooting from a platform in the soundboard/lighting area.
Well last night there were a few variables that threw me for a loop. For some reason the lighting was different last night. Brighter in some areas, almost non-existant in others. The platform was a good 2 feet lower than usual and a large number of tall people were directly in front of the area.
So, I took less shots than usual. About 700 as opposed to the usual 1100-1400. A good 85% were ruined by arms obscuring the performers...sometimes covering 90% of the shot. Adjustments for the lighting were on the fly...often with bad, bad results.
If it was another gig, I normally would have found a different area to shoot from, but my restrction is stay at the platform. I have set a certain level of quality to my photography and it was very hard to reach that goal last night. Even the camera was heavier last night and I'm feeling it. So, today I am in a bit of a funk.
When this has happend to you, how have you gotten back on the horse?
