Im also looking right now, from reputable places such as BH,Ado,amazon etc,$1059 no tax, free shipping.Ive seen a lot go on ebay for around $875-$950 or so,but Im weary unless its local and I can check it out before handing over the cash(I did this for my 28-135 recently)
I would probably pay the price and get a new one under warranty,Im sure there may be a few come up on these forums too

I'd get them on the used forums as a lot of people are selling their kit lenses.

You specified new so your options are going to be B&H and Adorama. These places may not be the cheapest, your definition of best. But you will get the lens and not have to worry about your getting scammed.

If you want to save money consider used, as others have suggested . If you look at the forums here or on Fred Miranda you will be dealing with other photogs only. And you can find sellers that have a lot of good feedback to provide you some degree of comfort.

I bought my 24-105 here. I think I paid around $800 and it was like new. Every other piece of equipment in my sig was purchased used on FM and I have yet to have a disappointing transaction.

Today prices went up at adorama and at BHPhoto. They already ask 1099$ for 24-105
I decided to save a few dollars and try refurb from adorama ( http://www.adorama.com/CA24105AFUR.html (external link) )
Hope this will go ok
