I'd like to say this should be in the market watch thread. Sounds a little sketchy, so definitely sounds like buyer should beware. Either that or this seller really really wants a PS3.

FS: Canon 40D $450 on Craigslist

Here is a link to a great deal in So Cal for a 40D in Orange County. I haven't responded to the ad but it might be worth jumping on it. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/pho/1155879961.html (external link)

Just missed a local craigslist for a 40d and 28-135 IS lens for $700! A little too late again!

I would say that CL is a scam, but I have actaully got some pretty good deals on camera equipment on there. I got my old 30D with 2,400 actuations for $250. Sent it into canon just to get the count and get it cleaned to make sure, and sure enough, it was a good buy. Same thing on my 70-200mm f/4L. Got it for $325.

Not always too good to be true. I got lucky and got a practically brand new Xsi, kit lens, 50-250mm, extra battery, and decent bag for $550. I think that was a pretty good deal. Now I look on craigslist every day hoping to get lucky again. So far no luck :(

Craigslist is loaded with adds like these.

The standard response when you email that you want to buy the item is that the owner is currently traveling in Europe, Asia, whatever and could you handle the transaction through a third party shipping company, yadda, yadda.

There are a few good deals out there, but the scams greatly outnumber the legitimate sales.

I don't think anyone is going to be buying a 40D for $450.

I scored a nice deal on my 20D a few months back off of CL.

For $550, I got the 20D, canon battery grip, 17-85 IS, a couple Tiffen filters (CPL, UV), 4 CF cards ( 3x 1gb, 1x 2gb) with a carrying case & a Pelican case it all came in. SCORE.

The dude that sold it to me was a photographer at the Navy base here, so I'm sure it wasn't stolen. I saw the rest of his gear, very nice.

The thought that it may have been stolen did cross my mind, but the economy here has gotten pretty bad. A lot of lay offs. So a lot of people are having to sell their things to pay the bills, which was the case in my deal as well as many other CL deals that I have gotten lately.
