... and get them off their butts.

As of today, I have had a totally common object on order for a month: a 5D Mark II battery. An extra battery is probably one of the most-often purchased accessories.

The vendor (Adorama) has no indication when stock will arrive.

A month! There's no excuse for this, Canon.

Thank God Canon is not in charge of the world's food supply. If they were, we would all have been dead weeks ago.

End rant.

Where are you in NC? I could have one in hand within the hour down here around Raleigh.

My local shop, pictureline, has them in stock and available for web order at $20 less than adorama:

Great shop, btw, wholeheartedly recommend them.

Well, what the heck is going on? Adorama has sent me email status reports during the last month saying they still can't get any.

Is canon punishing adorama for some reason? Maybe I should just cancel my order, but it also contains a focus screen (ALSO out of stock).

I'm in gso. Are you with southeastern camera? I've checked with Chris continually in the carborro store and he doesn't have any.

Who knows, maybe they are concentrating on stocking their retail inventory and leaving online by the wayside. At Best Buy they had 2 L lenses and the 10-22mm in stock, as well as the 5D mkII and accessories. The funny thing is that Best Buy is trying to improve their image as a camera retailer. Instead of having only cheap Dynex tripods, they actually have a couple of Manfrottos, as well as high end lenses.

Thanks. And thanks for the side info about BB. I did not know they were changing part of their retail model. I've tried not to shop there for a few years now, but perhaps they deserve another look.

I've looked and while Best Buy may offer some higher end stuff than in the past, their prices are sill WAY higher than B&H, Adorama, or even Amazon.

Interesting about the batteries though, I was lucky enough to grab an extra one when I ordered my 5Dmk2, but everything I have heard since has led me to believe that Canon's supply has not yet caught up to demand.

No problem; I was the same way; I saw no reason to enter a Best Buy. But one day after work, I felt like dropping just to handle some of the other DSLRs (so I at least somewhat know what I'm talking about in forums) and that's when I noticed the 17-40L, 70-200mm f/4 IS and the 10-22mm and began to wonder if I was actually in Best Buy. There prices are horrendously high of course, they want $850 for the 17-40L.

Best Buy might be trying to fill the vacuum left by Circuit City and Ritz Camera.

Well, well... look at this. Generic batteries popped up at Adorama.

Maybe the problem isn't with Canon but with Adorama. It doesn't seem like anyone else has problems getting them.

i think what is happening is that everyone is depleting the big guy's inventory and the smaller shops have it in stock.

Just talked to Adorama. They have been getting shipments periodically, but because they had 2,000 customer backorders, stock is depleted as soon as it comes in. They said present backorder stands at 400.

I changed my order to one of the generics (see above). I was told their initial shipment of those will be 75, and my backorder was #30.
