Spent the past 7 years in NYC. NYC is nicknamed "The Big Apple" hence my username big_apple_ken.

We should do drinks one night. Been thinking about shooting 2 things recently:

1) Want to try shooting then making one of those fake tilt shift (miniaturization) photos of Hong Kong (probably somewhere in Causeway Bay or Central). I was taking photos of Pedder St with my Iphone (scouting purposes) from the raised walkway and was kindly informed by a security guy that it wasn't allowed (private property apparently). Blah...

2) July 1st is coming up. There's probably some mini fireworks going down. Was thinking about finally buying a tripod and shooting some long exposures.

Dude, go to that walkway with me (a Gwai Lou) they'll let us set up a tripod and take photos there (I'll argue with the guy while you take the photos).

I'm good at playing the Gwai Lou card. ;)

I just found out no fireworks today. They only have fireworks for 7/1 on the 5th, 10th, 15th etc anniversaries.

I've got a few days before I head off to Japan, and then a few days left in HK. Was wondering if anyone knew of any places to get a medium sized bag about the size of the Lowepro Mini Trekker (external link)
Pricewise I'm looking at around 80-100 USD, if anyone knows of any places let me know!

Hi Guys, I also moved to Hong Kong 4 months ago. I had no idea about this thread until today when i was searching for a place to buy some lighting equipment in HongKong. I would love to join you guys if there's another gathering. by the way, my name is Vinny.

Stealthy Ninja, i am also looking to buy some of the toys below. do you still remember how much they go for? i will go check it out sometime next week.

2 umbrellas (with black/silver removable and shoot through white combo)
2 flash stands
2 Flash/umbrella mounts
A long bag to hold the stands/background etc.

Vin.

Hey guys, I just discovered this thread! Thanks for the flickr groups. It's great to see so many HK POTNers!
My girlfriend is in Hong Kong for another month or so, I was wondering what is the cheapest and reliable place to pick up a manfrotto 488RC2 ballhead, a Canon E1 Handstrap and Cactus V4?

Thanks

Found a friend who also wants to upgrade his camera to a 5D mark II. We openly discussed about upgrading at my wife's birthday dinner. Then I had the bright idea of saying, "hey, let's go buy together and maybe get a discount".

At the moment, I am in the wife's good books for organising her birthday dinner and cake in a a very nice location. Absolutely no protests came from my wife or his wife :) Better strike while the proverbial iron is hot - I've arranged to meet the friend this coming Saturday and we are going for it!!! (We didn't mention the price or if I did, it was very quietly.....)

the strobist group also has lots of resources of where to buy what etc!

I am actually members of both these groups. My humble opinion is the activity level of both groups are surprisingly pretty low. I went to a landscape photography seminar with HKPC but outside of that their activities are sort of monthly based. Their message board on meetup is kind of dead for a group with close to 500 members.

The HK Strobist is sort of the same. They don't really organize any activities and the board has a new post like every 2-3 days.

On some strange level we actually get more posts on this POTN thread than the entire message board of HKPC or HK Strobist which I find kind of sad.

Anyway, my point wasn't necessarily to bad mouth any of these groups but just a little sad there isn't more activity amongst the HK photography community (there's so many of us here!). There's just so much potential.

On that note, I'm going to stop the **** and suggest we grab beers one night. I'll organize it and plan it. It will be a good venue just to put a face to a username and also get to know each other a little better (who know's maybe there will actually be fun things we can shoot together). So the basic plan is:

Location: Bit Point Bar in Lan Kwai Fong (G/F 31 D'Aguilar Street)
Time: 7PM
Date: Tuesday 7/14 but if people can't do that I can do Thursday 7/16

Let me know who's in.

HK strobist group I agree is kinda dead

HKPC however and its meetup group, I dont think you pay enough attention, apart from the monthly meetings and photography outings there are film outings, black and white groups events, street photography meets, and myself as well i meet up about weekly with some of them for related events.

It also depends on individuals action to join things or be part of.

it could be that something is wrong with your meetup settings and you dont get all mails and notifications? perhaps send the group manager a email?

Cheers

Marco

Finally. Got a 5Dmark II last night. Couldn;t get it from Kinefoto as they had already closed. I had passed by Lan Kwai Fong earlier in the day and there were more photographers than participants in the beer festival. Then the heavens opened....

It was later that I managed to grab some time to buy the camera and also get a D10 P&S. hehe. No shots yet though.
