Personally, I'm no Pro, but I currently shoot in RAW and small jpeg. That way I have a full image to work with (the CR2 file) and a small jpeg to use as a "thumbnail". The smaller image is makes it easier for me to identify the images that I actually will keep and edit (if necessary) in PP.

Just the humble musings of a beginner...

Generally I shoot RAW+JPEG. Most of the JPEG images are ok. For those images that weren't good, I would post process the RAW image. The latter is a lifesaver because it seems to me that the best images sometimes aren't good enough and the RAW images are the backup.

Depends on the situation. If the light isn't changing I whack it in Manual mode, set the exposure to taste and whack away in .jpg. If it's changing light, gigs or I'm trying to get the most out of an image it's RAW.

I'm the same as the guys above. Raw with a sidecar JPG. My reasons for shooting RAW are, I tend to do alot or like to, post process my images afterwards. And just knowing I have a file with the most flexibility & quailty there for archiving. The sidecar JPG is mainly for quick ID's, and if I need to quickly send the image via email.

I shoot in RAW+JPEG but I don't think I have ever used the jpeg's so I should probably just shoot raw.

Sports in jpeg -- the rest is half RAW half jpeg. Depends -- even the weddings I shoot I do half RAW and half jpeg --- if the venue is cruddy I try to shoot RAW -- which will give me more room - but I am trying to move away from RAW one less step eliminated in the pp work.

Every time I trip the shutter I want the very best quality my camera can produce. Every time. So I shoot Raw, all the time.

Pros with time deadlines need it because seconds uploading = getting paid or going hungry. ;)

But the pros are using high-end cameras & know what they're doing, so I'll always recommend RAW for beginners because, as they learn more, they can go back & reprocess & possibly salvage a once in a lifetime shot. I was in a hurry & screwed up the exposure in this one. RAW saved me from my mistake:

RAW 100% of the time.

"Pros" just means they are getting paid...nothing more, nothing less.

In an ideal world, you would expect to get consistent performance levels from a Pro, but we don't live in an ideal world.;-)a

I know myself - I'm so anal that I can't leave anything alone without trying to improve it. RAW.
