It's the new PCMCIA type slots on laptops. They're extremely fast data ports, meant to be able to connect external modems, harddrives, etc..

Since these are basically a direct connection to the motherboard, they act similar to a SATA port, I believe and are quite a bit faster than firewire and definitely smoke USB.

Oops did not see you needed Memory Stick capability.

I have the MUCH older version of this (external link), but this one is SATA. If your computer (I'm assuming it's a desktop) has SATA, this will probably bottleneck at your memory card as opposed to the port itself. :D

It's also USB or firewire compatible, if that's your tune.

EDIT: Damn, just read the reviews, and seems like it's not THAT good, as it's hard to fit in the slot or the cards. But, I never had problems with mine, and range from using Memory Stick Pro Duo's (Sony PSP), SD cards (miniSD for my phone), and CF cards (camera, obviously).

That is the same Lexar that I listed at the beginning of the thread. It is awesome. I bit pricey but you get what you pay for. It folds up flat when not in use. It is super fast and supports UDMA cards (the reason I got it). B&H sells them if interested.
