50D Red dot

First post from a complete noob, so be gentle
I bought a 50 D about a week ago and have just noticed a tiny red dot at the centre of all my raw images. On some photos this can just be made out, on others you have to blow it up to see. Is this normal or is there a problem ?

Do you mean when viewing them on your LCD. Mine too (jpeg). It just shows the focus point if I'm correct. It never appears on the actual photo.

i dont think he's talking about the focus point.

it's called a hot pixel and it's perfectly normal. many people use the sensor cleaning method to remap dead or hot pixels. give it a shot if you're really concerned about it.

As alt4852 says, sounds like a hot pixel. It happens from time to time. Try this to clear it.

Remove the lens and replace with the body cap.
Set the camera into manual cleaning mode.
Let it sit for 30 or so seconds.
Replace the lens and see if the dot is still there. If it's gone, your set. If it's there, try it again.
If it remains and the body is new, see if you can replace it.

What happened to the picture? You should leave the original question intact so that it may help others in the future who have the same problem.

Out of curiosity, how does this fix a hot pixel?

Edit: nevermind, I looked it up. Apparently during the cleaning process the camera will remap the pixels.

I think that net wisdom states that it get remapped but I'm guessing differently. I think that when you put the sensor into cleaning mode it grounds the sensor and removes all power to minimize static. This then allows the stuck on transistor to return back to the off state. Of course, I'm just guessing.

Either that or a small Canon troll crawls out and paints over the hotpixel with a Sharpie. These are the same trolls that add dust bunnies in their spare time.
