I got this camera in a few weeks ago and it works with most of my long range lenses but when i put my sigma lens on which is a 28 70 2.8 the image has a complete circle around it and is blacked out around it. Anyway what do you think would be a good lens for wide shots..

here is a few of my lenses below that work already with this body
sigma 120-300 2.8
canon 70-200 2.8
canon 85 1.2

How wide, and what do you want to shoot? F4 or 2.6?

Either 17-40 or 16-35 - or a 24L?

All nice choices on this camera.

That's weird. AFAIK it s a FF lens. You don't mean the 17-70 by any chance, do you?

You could either get a standard zoom for FF, like the 24-105 F/4L IS, or the 24-70 F/2.8L, or maybe even a fast prime like the 24L, or 35L. If you want to go ultrawide, there is the 17-40 F/4L and the 16-35 F/2.8L II, but the latter is outside the budget you mentioned, as is the 14 F/2.8L II.

Kind regards, Wim

Well that's really strange...

When asking "what lens?", the most common but really wise feedback you get is "what do you want it for...?"

If the issue with your Sigma is serious and irreversible, you'll need a standard zoom I guess...? 24-70L will be a good investment for 1200...
However, if you're going for the wide side mainly, the 16-35L will no-way disappoint you, for the same money.
If now you're into setting up your subject (as in a studio or static subjects) or fancy low light situations, 24L or 35L are champions...

I suggest Ls, since they won't have to be replaced for years to come...

Hope it helps,
Cheers

Ls

That is indeed a very good lens, if I may answer the question.

I don't know the prices in the US, but over here it sells for approx. 1000 euros currently, and the 24L Mk II for approximately 1450 euros.

The difference between the two is that the new 24L is slightly bigger, and a little sharper in the corners wide open.

I've sold my 24L recently, because I got a price I couldn't refuse, and put it down for the Mk II which I have on order. If I hadn't gotten a really very good price, I would have been very happy to keep the Mk I.

Kind regards, Wim

I use my 24-70L on my 5DII. It's my work horse FOR SURE.

yeah if its general purpose zoom you are looking for - 24-70 or 24-105....

if your really into the video side - consider the 24-105 as I have found image stabiliser to really help in hand held situations.

the prime options are good - although I would imagine that 24 would be considered 'wide' for an everyday general prime on FF? no?

+1
My 24-70 found a new life on my 5d MKII. Its my goto lens for almost anything. The range is really perfect on the 5dMKII.

I also bought the 16-35 II for landscapes and that works wonderfully on the 5dMKII as well, but I'm not using it as much as the 24-70...
