I have quite a few dust spots on my back LCD screen and wonder how much weather seal the 1D really has. They are mostly on the right side near the top on/off switch. Some even looks like spots on the inside of the protector.

The lower LCD is clean. Can I just pry this open, clean it and put it back? Anyone know if the glue they have on it will still stick?

After my Zion trip last week, it seems like there are more now. I wonder if they got in through where the eye cup is since I lost it on the same trip.

you can take the back of the camera off and remove any dust in there. I have done this, very easy.

How did you remove it? Just pry it open with a small screw driver?

And you put it back using the same cover?

I took the actual Whole back of the body off. There are some screws under the rubber gripping material that need removing before you can get the back off.. just pull carefully when you get the screws out. When I had the area of the screen exposed, I took my rocket blower and blew it all out.

I would not personally take the entire back of my 1D off. Yikes!

To the OP, you can very carefully using a jewelers screwdriver (or similar pry tool) lift that back LCD screen cover out of place as it is just held in place with double-sided sticky tape.

Once you have it all cleaned out - you can cut and use your own double-sided tape to re-install or you can order the factory tape set from this site that I recently found. There are a number of 1D replacement parts available at this site as well......good resources for all 1D owners.

Thanks looking4, I probably don't the skills to open the back ..I'd have extra screws when I put it back together :D

Bauerman, thanks for the link. I'll pry it open and see, the double side tape is pretty cheap.

No problem - I have some dust under the lower section of my LCD cover and am thinking of ordering that tape kit and cleaning mine out as well. On a side note - they sell the OEM Canon LCD cover on that site as well.....so if yours is scratched pretty bad might as well install a spanking new one while you are doing the other work.....

Yeah - I noticed that too. I think I am going to get a new hot shoe as well.....my 1D would looked pimped out with a completely black hot shoe! :D

(Or I could sand it down and have a silver one like the newer cams.)
