Shoot wide open; editors look for pictures that are uncluttered. Of course it's a little sharper stopped down, but pro sports photographers still grab the 2.8s for afternoon games because of their speed. And a few of them seem a little underexposed, but that's more of personal preference.

1. Don't like the base coach in the foreground and the photo is under exposed
2. Needs to be cropped a lot tighter to get rid of some the distracting background, shot is slightly oof.
3. I personally don't like cropping players at a joint, meaning the knees here. To much extra space in the photo
4. Obviously this is a crop of #3, it helps but it's soft.
5. This is the best shot here but it's soft and slightly underexposed.

alright thanks guys, well i would love to stop down to 2.8 don't get me wrong but i was using my 100-400 so 5.0 to 5.6. but i think some of my shots may have been stopped down i looked at my setting and i must have hit the wheel because my ap was up around 7. i am mad at myself that i didn't catch that earlier, but live and learn i guess.

thanks for the good CC

2 & 5 are the best

1 has a good facial expression but too much head in the way.

Right, I saw you have the 100-400, which may be the most versatile lens for the job. However, its drawback is it's two stops slower than the 2.8s, but those are overkill unless you're getting paid or have a lot of money sitting around.
