If I live close to the swamps like Nicksan I'll buy one

Nicksan is a city boy but works in the swamp :D.

Same here, I analyze my purchases way too much sometimes

if i bought everything my wife thought i should have we'd be facing eviction like my neighbor.

but her heart is in the right place :D.

Always nice to have the option to purchase ;)

Just think of what she would let you buy in the future.. if you took the money from that lens and took her away to some tropical island. I think that would score you enough Brownie points to buy the camera AND the lens upon your return!

Make sure you add a solid tripod setup to the cart too...unless you are already equipped (didn't see anything in the gear list).

I like to think of a marriage as a partnership were both partners talk and share. My wife and I keep separate bank accounts and finances but we still consult one another for any large purchases.

Jon - I say go for it...I don't think you'll regret the purchase. I'm waiting for the day I can pull the trigger on a 500 f/4.0.

I can't imagine too many people would be happy if his/her spouse bought a $5,000 luxury item without consultation. But, it would be nice to have the money that would constitute the said item as pocket change.

yes you will also need to add 700.00 for a tripod, then another 750.00 for a wimberly II head and then you'll need the flash bracket an offshoe cord oh lets not forget a lenscoat for the lens, tripod, and head. a better beamer and a 580exII flash
so you can almost spend another 1800.00 on whats needed to go with the 500mm

Think to your self if you really need it because its a huge purchase so I would consider it and just because the wifey says go make sure she doesnt want a new car etc. before falling into her trap.
