Boy, I bet President Obama is really upset the offically White House photographer uses a toy as his tool of choice.

That's the most absurd thing I've heard on these forums. Now, I love my 1DsII, and I really like having the 1 series AF, but not everyone needs 45 point AF and weathersealing...and if you don't, and you're not shooting sports, the 5D II is about as good a tool as you can get. People shoot the 1D III when they want 1-Series AF and build, with fast FPS and don't need extreme resolution. People shoot the 1DsIII when they want maximum image quality and don't need high speed continuous. People shoot the 5D II when they want maximum image quality and either want a more compact body, or don't require 45 point AF and weather sealing.

How silly am I then!

But why get the 1D3 over the 5D2 then?

I much prefer the 1.3x crop. You still get the super shallow DOF (better than the 1.6x crop cams), and the extra reach is very handy.

1D3 - I own one
1Ds3 - I don't own one

For me that's the biggest difference :D

The 5D MKII is an updated full frame 450D and IMO nothing more.

Use a Pro body and you will quickly see the difference, don't let the PIXELS fool you, the 5D MK II is a very nice TOY nothing more.

Best joke all day. bw!

Yup. The one thing about shooting in the White House is that the camera has to be fairly quiet. I know that they used EOS 10D's back in the day, because they were quieter than the pro offerings of that era... :)

Oh hey, that's kind of cool. So the shutter is pretty quiet?
One thing I love on the 1D MKIII is the "S" shooting mode... the shutter is so nice it would be awesome for weddings and the like. After using "S" mode a lot, when I switch back to One Shot or High Speed mode, it's quite shocking how loud the shutter can seem.

^I'm not sure, he could just be using the photog's backup. He's holding it wrong ;)

Anyway, whoever said the 5D2 is a toy needs to come back down to Earth. What a crock.

Probably. Wouldn't be a surprise if he has at least two 5D's at hand so he doesn't have to take the time to switch lenses.

The 1D3 has better ISO than the 1Ds3. I found the 1Ds3 is not the ideal motorsport camera due to needing a fast CF card to write the 21mp photos in RAW (cant afford both :) )

The mk3 series and the 580mk2 flash have menu settings in the camera.

Cant comment on 5Dmk2 but I sold 5D classic and 1Dmk2 to get 1Dsmk3

Well, the official presidential portrait that is displayed in every government building was taken with the 5D2, so I'm guessing he uses it more than just as a backup.

You don't get any reach advantage with a 1DIII over the 5DII. A 5DII cropped to the same size as the 1DIII sensor is a 13.5MP image...or higher resolution than your native 1DIII file, so you'll actually get more usable reach with a 5DII than you will with a 1DIII. Now the 50D has a significant reach advantage over the 5D II.

^ +1... the crop factor is so misunderstood because people don't factor in pixel count/density.
