I'm looking for a messenger bag to fit a 40D w/ zoom mounted, 135L or other prime, 580EXII and 13.3" Sony Vaio notebook. There are a handful of reviews that talk about not-yet-released bags from Domke, Crumpler and F-Stop, but I haven't seen any dates. Does anyone know estimated ship dates on those? What about pre-release bag details from the manufacturer?

What about other messenger bag suggestions and pictures?

Thanks!

What sort of zoom mounted? 17-55? Have you looked at cambags.com and the reviews of the bags such as the Domke F-3x, F-2 etc.? There's a bag reviews sticky here. I've done one of the F-3 which you can see in my sig.

Over on the Tiffen forum, Domke's Product Manager has said they should be in the stores in early June. How thick is the Vaio you have? The new Domke F-811 is sized for a 15" MacBook Pro, so a slim Vaio might be rattling around. In that case, an F-802 with the 720-230 insert might be a more convenient choice. In addition, the main compartments (both laptop and camera) on the new bags are zippered, and the flap doesn't cover them. The wide open F-802 has an edge there when you have a slim notebook and need to work from the bag. If you use a grip, the F-804 and the same 720-230 would be very workable; you could use any commercially-available laptop sleeve in combination with it.

The Lowepro Stealth Reporter 550 and model numbers above it are messenger type bags that all have slots for laptops. I think they're the best in this type of bag, very well constructed with a host of features. One of the best things is a waterproof cover that pulls out from the bag itself.

It'll get heavy on one shoulder, but if that's what you want, the Stealth will provide.

I definitely recommend the Tenba Messenger Bag (Small). I just got mine in the other day and i was more than impressed. I heard the large is a little bigger but the small was PERFECT for me. I fit the following gear without any issues:
Camera body w/ 20700 attached, 2 extra lenses, external flash, 9" dell mini, 2 magazines, wallet, etc...

Highly recommended

I've been thinking about the Tenba Messenger, Small. Another report on POTN dwelled to a degree with it not be that 'small'...could you photograph your bag with the 9" mini in it and other stuff inside, so I can get an idea of how much room to spare or how tight of a fit?

unless their lineup has changed, the small is actually a medium (there's only two sizes - medium and large) and is sized to fit a 15" laptop comfortably. So you could probably fit two 9" netbooks in there on their sides.

I was somewhat less concerned with the length/width of a netbook and how it fit, than the thickness of a netbook that is 1.5" thick with a 6-cell capacity battery attached.

ah. I had/have that bag (now using a Think Tank Urban Disguise 50 - more personal preference on ergonomics than a commentary on the quality of the tenba) and my 15" macbook pro fit nicely. I *think* but can't say for sure that a 1.5" laptop would fit - my MBP wasn't super-snug and there's some give in the design and construction. not sure what the battery you mention does to the dimensions of the laptop, though.

With the 6-cell, the Aspire measures 1.5" thick...thicker than the Aspire with the 3-cell.

I have a Domke F-802 and that would fit well. I took my 17 inch to Disney, so it didn't fit, but the smaller netbooks fit well (I have the ACER). I carried the bag for 3 hours in Epcot with the 5DII, 24-70 attached and accessories. It was not too heavy and I could fit all the other junk I need that would normally be in a purse.

If you are looking for messenger type bag, I would consider looking at crumpler bags. I would say 7MDH will fit the equipment you are lookinf to carry

I ordered the large Tenba messenger in black from Amazon. It'll be here tomorrow and I'll let you know if it works out. I love my Domkes so we'll see how how this Tenba stacks up. I really like the inside design and size of the F-Stop messenger bags, but wasn't that excited about the style/colors. As always, thanks for the quick responses and posts! Forums like this are excellent.
