I have been trying to get a picture of this guy for over a month. Actually I think I was tracking Mom or Dad as this guy looks to be a juvenile. I have run into him several times but always after the sun was going down or down already, and he has been very shy. The closest I have ever gotten before is maybe 100 yards. If I tried to approach closer, he flew away.

Well this weekend while hiking with my wife, we bumped into him again. He was about 20 feet or so up in the tree and most importantly, I had decent light. I snapped off a pics, took a few steps forward, snapped a few more and slowly worked to within 15~20 yards of him. He was watching me the whole way but didn't seem to mind the camera. He even let me get two different angles. Guess me must have been tired as the sun had not yet gone down.

Very nice shots. I have yet to see one of these. Maybe you need to bring him a mouse. :)

Thanx, it's a Great Horned Owl I believe. Hit horns are sticking straight up but I'm guessing it's because he's a youngster.

I though it might be, but seems a bit different from the one's I've seen. I have a hard time identifying these guys though....even moreso with some of the hawks.

Cool shots John. I can never find the owls near me to take shots of.
