I'm wanting to buy Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and Lightroom 2.0. I was using Pricegrabber.com, and came across some interesting things.

First, is PS Elements 7 for $38. It is listed as OEM software. Is this legit?

I have PS Elements 2, but want to get a newer version. My other option would be to buy an upgrade copy...

Lightroom comes up for around $218. Since I do not have a previous copy, I need a full version. Are the vendors that have it for this price legit?

Thanks for the assistance.

Wow, those are awesome prices. I wonder if taking my photography class at a community college counts? I'm currently enrolled for a class in the summer.

How do they verify if you are a student?

Ah, found it. Looks like if I have a valid student ID, I should be fine...

yea the student version is not actually the student version. box may say so but when you open it up, its a regular version disc with no labeling whatsoever that its student...go figure haha. and yes all you need is a student ID. your community college should have it in their store. its $99+tx for the full version as a student.

anyways best deal for adobe products is to know someone at adobe. they get their stuff for roughly 10% of cost...that means the entire master collection is like $250 haha...maybe i shouldnt have said that.

Only catch with the student version is that I've heard you can't do the updates with it to newer versions... you're forced to buy "full" versions every time. Still great deals though.

Hmm...that is good to know. Of course, that comes from someone that still uses PS Elements 2.0...so that shouldn't be a problem for me.

Or work for a nonprofit who legitimately uses Adobe products. My boss got CS3 for me a couple years ago for something around that.

Yeah, those are the best prices! Too bad my community college isn't participating.

So what prices have you found geogecko? I'm looking for a full version of LR2 as well and I don't want to buy from some disreputable place. I want the box and all items that are supposed to come to me. Best so far is B&H. I can't buy from Amazon because I get charged tax there. :(

Since I am a student, I plan on buying direct from Adobe. Those are about the lowest prices I have found, and why by from an academic site, if you can buy straight from Adobe?

There are several places on Pricegrabber.com that have LR2 listed for around $220.

If you have a way of taking a class at a local college, you could just do that, and you could get the student discount price, and still probably save another $20-30, plus you get to take a class...

I have CS3 extended and LR from student pricing and they are FULL versions bought at academic superstore. ALL updates are accepted. I have since upgraded to LR2 for less than $100.

Plus adobe has a $20 rebate if you have another program that you are replacing, like google picasa for instance, which is free. I have a .pdf file for the rebate, if you want it, send me your email and I can send you a copy.

Nikon D300 and other non canon stuff, I just like this place. MOOOHAHAHAHA :p

Academic versions "can" be updated. My recently purchased Lightroom, has updated twice to newer versions since I installed it. Once to 2.2, then not long ago to 2.3.
