Since I bought my SX10 IS last November, I have been thrilled with it. Well, the happiness has worn off.

I tried to take a flash picture with the built in flash this past Saturday and the camera never beeped and told me it was ready. The flash symbol (little lightning bolt) just kept flashing like the flash was waiting to charge.

I thought the batteries might be low and put in a fresh set of batteries. Still the same problem. I put my Sigma external flash on the camera and then it worked as it should. I also reset all camera settings.

If I take pictures with the built in flash down, it works just fine. I guess I need to send the camera in to New York, or is it New Jersey? Either way, I do not have time right now as I have a fishing trip to Canada in less than 3 weeks.

I guess I will send it in when I get back.

Is it possible the SX10 might have a micro switch under the hotshoe rails like they do on the EOS cameras? It may be stuck and disables the flash?

I got stuff for taking pictures. :o When things are unclear - It's time to refocus.

Great idea, it does, under the right rail. However, it is working properly.

Nice try though.

No, it is still dead. I meant the switch under the flash mount rail appeared to be working properly. When depressed, the camera switched from built-in to add-on flash.

I will send it in for repairs in a few weeks after a fishing trip to Canada.

FLASH UPDATE!

When I had work done on my old XTi, I had to send it back to New Jersey or New York (I forget which). I was prepared for that, to get the flash repaired on my SX10 IS.

However, when I started making arrangements to send it in, I found that the Power Shot Repair Facility is about 10 miles from my house in Elk Grove Village, Il..

I drove it out there today and told them my daughter is getting married in 3 weeks. I was told I should be able to pick it up by Friday!!! Lovely! She has a photographer, but I always like to take some.

I will post the results of the repairs.

Wow, just about 21 hours turn around time. I got a call at 9:30 this morning telling me I could pick-up my camera.

I got it and everything works fine. They replaced the entire flash unit under warranty. THANK YOU Canon Service Center!

Here is a flash picture and a non-flash taken on the way home.

Flash in a pretty dark turtle pond.

No flash outside in bright sun.

It's always great to know customer service is high on a company's priority list. Being someone who has to provide customer service every day at work, I become easily disappointed to see how little most companies care anymore. My nephew had a billing issue with AT&T and they admitted their mistake, but said there was nothing they could do!

As I'm about to buy a new P&S Canon, it's stories like this about their customer service that will keep me in the brand.
