R-Strap for Women?

I purchased my R-Strap a few weeks ago after carefully ready all the reviews. My initial impression was good. It was more comfortable that what I had been using and easy to pull the camera in position to shoot. But I always had trouble adjusting it and it always hung at my side towards the front of my hip.

Anyway, I just purchased the 70-200 f/4 L IS and the additional weight pulls the camera even further to the front so it is hitting the top of my thigh when I walk and the lens keeps rotating to face the front rather than facing backwards.

I think my problem is that boobs and hips get in the way :oops:. I need to wear it a little lower than I have seen others (men) in the pictures on this forum. Even when I've tried to wear it higher, it still rides in the front rather than towards the small of my back.

So, have any other women out there using this strap come up with a solution? Anyone for that matter.

Don't rule out the responses from men with 'man-boobs'...

I'll take any and all suggestions. You are right, maybe some of the men with "man-boobs" have a solution for me.

Never found the R strap to work for me, I never liked the design. I think it's the fact that all the weight of the camera and lens are unbalanced by being held at the bottom of the body, and that both are basically upside down and creating more of a swinging weight than when on a standard strap.

I got a Pacsafe 100 which I wear across my chest instead. Works better for me. Basically the same feeling as the OEM red and black strap but with a rubberized shoulder pad and the strap which slips through it to make it move smoothly. Maybe this could be an alternative to the R-strap.

I bought some parts a few weeks ago and put together a home-made R-strap (without tripod connection). It works great, and I let my girlfriend try it to see if she would've liked me to make one for her. She likes how it works, but her boobs get in the way too. The strap "sinks" in between. It doesn't affect the usage that much, but her shirt is sorta stretched between the boobs, if that's the right way to describe it. We haven't come up with a "solution" yet because of a lack of time. Sorry I don't have any useful comments, but just wanted to shared the experience.

I know exactly what you mean. That's part of the problem and one of the reasons I tend to keep the strap longer than some other folks. With a sizeable chest I really don't need the strap looking like it is circling the boobs . Sorta looks like I'm half a Wonder Woman (or maybe Xena for you younger guys).

This thread is quickly becoming an exercise to see how many times we can say 'boobs'.

i think you should try a different way of wearing the camera on the strap.

I found the best way for ME to carry it (not a woman) is to have it so the lens and body kind of cup the outside of your leg. lens facing backwards, body forwards. it normally stayes glued to your leg that way unless you are running.

Do you have a tripod collar on your 70-200? If you don't and are hanging the camera/lens combination from the bottom of the camera, it's going to be very unbalanced and won't hang right. My wife used one of our R-Straps with my 100-400 recently and it hung just fine and she's a big girl also... The camera and lens were hung from the tripod collar on the lens which made a better balance point. She had problems with using the strap along with a backpack, (but that a whole 'nother issue.) You might want to consider getting a collar for your 70-200 if you don't already have one...

im using my r-strap with my 80-200L on its tripod collar with one body
another body with the regular strap around my neck

the 80-200 rests on my butt cheek when set down
it will prolly bang against my hip bone when walking tho...i havent tried
it balances well tho

i dont have boobs as i am a dood

i also have 3 lenses and 2 bodies...
so i figured id leave the r-strap on the 80-200L and put the 3rd lens on that body
so the 80-200L wil just hang on its own...
and ill have about 4 straps going around me..
r-strap
camera1
camera2
shoulder or sling bag

arg..thank goodness im getting paid for these gigs

I do not have a tripod collar. I didn't think it would be needed since it's only the f/4 version and it's pretty light. I'll try the strap for a while with a smaller lens and if it balances better, I guess I'll try a tripod collar. Thanks for the comment.

SnlpeR - how can you keep 4 straps straight? I imagine they'd tangle up and I'd forget which camera/lens was where. More power to you.

ive been practicing it for tonights graduation
r-strap from left shoulder to right hip (80-200L attached..)
lowepro sling over that from right shoulder to left waist
40d + 12-24 on left shoulder
30d + 28-70 around the neck

if i wanna use the 80-200...i slide the sling around....remove the 12-24..
then attach the 40d to the 80-200 thats still strapped via r-strap

i just let the original strap hang

we'll see how it goes tonight
and how my back and shoulders feel after

I picked up a RS-4 strap last week and have had a chance to use it on a couple of shoots and I love it.
I used it with my XTi and 70-200mm lens w/tripod collar and it hangs just fine.. I also used it with my XTi and 10-22mm lens and no problems at all...

I like the security feeling it gives me with my second camera and it operates great..
