Close Encounters of the Bird KInd...

Both of these shots are full framers, 40D + 500mm f/4 + 1.4tc. Taken in Northern New Jersey 2009.

This Pileated landed way too close to me. I think it got really close out of curiousity, and then proceeded to pound away at the tree for a few minutes before getting bored and leaving.

The Black and White Warbler also made a bit of a swoop at my head and then landed on a nice clear branch right in front of me. I have larger sized images available for viewing on smugmug to see detail, but a bigger watermark is imposed.

I'm at a loss for words to describe how much I want to sneak up behind you and "borrow" that lens.

These shots are remarkable. That woodpecker is perfection!

Very nice Dave. They are both obviously a couple of posers. Lately it seems if I have a camera with me, something wants their picture taken, it never fails.

Great shots. There is a pileated around me as I hear him every morning and evening and see his "drillings" but as of yet have not found him. Someday maybe.

Great Pileated portrait... We have them where I live, but they tend to be quite shy.. I rarely see them.
