Can I get your opinion?

Hey guys, I took this shot earlier today, its straight out of the camera, nothing done to it, I'm just not sure how I feel about it? Nothing really pops out at me about it, but at the same time I kind of like it.

I figure I'd leave it to the pros, what do you guys think?

First Impression: Lots of open "holes"

I think if you'd gotten down among the dandelions or shot along the row of trunks and used the same shallow DOF, it would be more effective.

Exactly...

You've got sky holes among the branches and open areas full of dandelions among the trees, etc...

It's really, really busy with nothing that really anchors your eye.

I agree totally, I couldn't quite pin-point what was bothering me about the picture, but it makes total sense what you just said, awesome man, thanks!

Would you care to elaborate? I sometimes have a problem getting past the "obvious shot". (Don't mean to hijack the thread BTW, but I think this would help the OP as well)

I hope the OP doesn't mind but I've boxed areas that have potential. Obviously a change in height/POV would have an affect on each area as well:

Thanks for that. I see what you mean. It's true that it always pays to "fill the frame" with the subject.

That's a good habit to get into. Rather than localizing your shots in camera, to start out try going through the shots you do have and drawing out crops of what would make a good shot, and next time you're there go shoot it like how you cropped - to fill the frame, this time.
