So I'm trying to get better at being organized, I really need to be. I know what I want, I just can't figure out how to make it work right so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

On my storage drive I have a master client folder. Inside that folder I have 2008, 2009, etc. folders. Inside those folders I have a dummy folder with all the needed sub-folders that I just copy/paste and then rename to the specific client. Sounds confusing when I type it out, but it makes sense to me. So for example when downloading the engagement RAW's the file path would look like this:

Clients>2009>Tom & Sue>RAW>Engagement

What I'm having trouble with is how to get this structure to show the same way in LR. When I choose the folder to dump the RAW's into it just shows up as Engagement. I just did two like this and they both showed up as only Engagement and weren't in any other folders.

So my LR file structure looks like this:

STORAGE DRIVE: X
Engagement
Engagement

I want it to look like this:

STORAGE DRIVE: X
Clients
>2009
>>Tom & Sue
>>>Engagement

I know I can set this up after the fact in LR itself by making new folders, but I want to be able to DL the files and have them show up correctly in one step. Is it possible? If so how do I do it?

Thanks a bunch
Chris

You need to import the parent folder into LR, or create the folders in LR. So Import the Clients folder and you should be fine.

To expand on this. LR is not a browser. It does not look at your drive for the folders that are on it. It only looks for folders you tell it to have stored in your catalog.

If you're downloading into the right structure already, set LR to show it as a hierarchy (external link)and others should slot into that hierarchy automatically in future.
