B&H or Adorama? What about Newegg.com?

Any thoughts &/or direction would be very helpful, as I need to get one for a b-day prez for this weekend.

Thanks!

Amazon. I just shopped this for my FIL, his gear just arrived yesterday. Adorama and B&H bundled them and with the Canon rebate, are selling for $850. If you add the XSi kit (18-55) and the 55-250 lens to your cart on Amazon and go all the way to the checkout page on Amazon, the price will drop to ~$750 shipped.

I bought mine off of the Ebay store "Pyxis Camera" with a 28-80mm and 75-300mm tamron lenses, bag, several filters and mini-pod for $749 shipped. Great customer service, too...I highly recommend them.

How are the lens on this package? I am a complete novice when it comes to this, but are these as good as the Canon lens? Is there a big difference?

Did you get this package?

That would be the package...Lens quality is good, I think. How it compares to the actual Canon USA version? Beats me, sigma is all I've ever used even when I started photography with Nikons I used sigma. So you'll have to get that answer from somebody who has used both lenses.

I have never used either lens but the consensus is that the 75-300mm is a not-so-good lens. The 70-300mm, on the other hand, is much better.

No. YES! This package gives you bottom-end film era lenses with no IS optical image stabilization and some unneeded cheap accessories like add-on lenses. For the EXACT SAME PRICE with the Canon instant rebate, you can get the Xsi at Amazon with the optically image stabilized EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens AND the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto. Add the Xsi and 55-250 to your cart from seller Amazon and you'll get a $200 when you begin check-out.

To everyone who posted in this thread a big:

THANK YOU!!!

I got my new camera from Amazon this weekend with the Xsi and 55-250 lens.

Question: Since the kit came with the EF-S 18-55 & the 55-250, is there any other lens you would recommend?

Thanks-Big Boost

You don't really need any other lens, for now. If you really want a faster, cheap, but good lens, then buy a 50mm 1.8. It goes for about $90-100 or so on Amazon. Or you can look in the for sale section here and buy one. Other than that, the 2 lenses you have cover everything from wide angle to a telephoto. Just use them for a while and buy new lenses (selling the old ones) if/when you feel you are ready for an upgrade.

Even though my items are in stock and from amazon, they still have not shipped. It's been over a week since I placed the order.

Took my father in law's about a week and a half to arrive. The 55-250 was listed as 1-4 week lead time at some point last week. I think it is in stock now.

I love Amazon prime! :)

My experience with Amazon has been mixed. Generally good however.
