Since my original Canon Digital Rebel I've been using the Goittos Screen Protectors and now I just got my 5D Mark II (my 4th DSLR) and was wondering if anyone else uses them and what peoples thoughts are on them.

Each time I've ordered a new body I just automatically ordered a screen protector with it. Since I bought my new body locally and the retailer didn't sell them **Cough** Best Buy - I wasn't able to get one with it and that got me thinking about it and it's worth / value.

I actually had one get pretty scratched and replaced it which was pretty easy. At the same time I've heard that replacing the LCD cover / protector on the camera itself is pretty easy.

I know this like many things is personal opinion / subjective but was wondering what others thought of them?

I have a Giottos screen protector on my XSi LCD screen and I love it. So far it has not gotten one scratch which I have wondered if it ever would. I got my XSi last June and the Giottos last July.

THIS (external link) is what I found for your camera.

why would you buy something like that for $30 when your camera's LCD screen is already protected? the glass that you see on your screen is the protector. if it gets scratch you can always get one from canon for $15 and its so easy to replace.

I was not aware it was easy to replace. I will keep that in mind. I figured if it needed replaced I would have to send it to Canon. How do you replace this screen at home?

yep.

How do you get the new one back in?

Where do you get a suction cup that will do this?

You get double stick tape with the replacement screen, or carefully save the old double-stick tape. And check a hardware or kitchen supply store for suction cup cup/towel/utensil hangers.

i got me a giottos regardless of what other ppl say
i think i have the 6 layer version and it was only about 12 bucks

we use 30ds to shoot weddings daily at work...and almost all of our bodies have scratches on the LCD screen covers from out belt buckles

id rather have the giottos get scratched than the oem one

The Giottos Aegis costs no less than $39.95 anywhere I've seen. A replacement OEM protector costs only half as much as the Giottos. It doesn't make much business sense to use a protector that costs twice as much.

Wow, you're wearing your cameras pretty low. Or your trousers pretty high. When I was using up to three cameras doing PJ, I still wore the bottom camera just above the belt.

Or you can pry it out carefuly with 2 small flat heads like I just did with the 1D 2 screen. Took it out, wipe all the dust put it back reusing the old sticky tape and it seemed to stick back ok, except a couple of small lints that somehow found the way back in there. :(

i prolly wear it a little low
i switch shoulders and neck between 2 cameras often...and i need the strap length to be a little longer when on the shoulder for better movement

my giottos has a couple of small chips that i noticed...
not sure what hit the body...but im still glad it hit the giottos first
