Crystal Clear water flows towards the ocean in one of the cleanest rivers in the United States. As a prized natural environment, the Smith River and its tributaries were designated as the Smith Wild and Scenic River by Congress in order to protect its over 300,000 acres of natural diversity and wildlife habitats in one of California's most pristine environments.

Wow! I've been thinking about a wilderness trip or two this summer. Gotta look up this place on the map and figure out how long it will take to drive there from the north bay area. Oh... and nice pics!

Thanks guys! Yeah i've been meaning to get out and take a few pictures because I do this drive along 199 fairly often to go see my friend on the coast. Just a beautiful drive. Tons of cool little swimming holes and rocks to jump off of. These 2 spots are only about 30 minutes from the beach. Downstream from here the river goes straight through the redwood forest and empties out into the ocean at the extreme northern end of California. The area is just great because there's so many cool places to explore and so many things to do, hiking, swimming, windsurfing, surfing, fishing, rafting, and of course taking pictures of all of it!
