I did a search, nothing specific popped up!

Is the Zenitar worth buying? Not sure I totally sure if this really is a fisheye or just an ultra wide angle lens.

Can someone help?

Thanks

The Zenitar FE is a good value for the money. Make up your mind between FE and UWA first though.

The Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 is a diagonal fisheye designed for full frame. The problem is, 16mm on crop bodies (which your XS is) aren't very fishy. Much of the fishyness is lost to the crop.

Thanks, not gonna waste the money then. I guess I'll hold out and buy a real fisheye. Any suggestions for a reasonably priced FE lens?

There was talk of a new Samyang one coming out, too. Also 8mm. The best would be the Sigma 10mm or the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye zoom. But of course they are priced a bit higher.

The "best" option is something the user needs to decide upon. The user should decide if they want a circular fisheye or a diagonal fisheye.

The Sigma 10mm f/2.8 DC EX HSM and Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye Zoom are both excellent diagonal fisheye options. Arguably the best 2 for crop, and for good reason, the Sigma is the widest and fastest diagonal. While the Tokina gives up some speed in the name of versatility, it performs exceptionally well.

If the user prefers a circular fisheye, then the Peleng 8mm is the best option for most users, its sharper than the Sigma at the cost of AF and a little more flare. But also offers incredible image quality at a low cost. The new Samyang (and all the other brand names Sakar will market it under) is as-yet unavailable for Canon mount, and is untested as to give people a true comparison to the other 2 options currently on the market. Thus, speaking of the Samyang as an option is as of this time a bit pre-mature.

What I am looking for is the circular effect of a FE. So maybe he Peleng is the best bet for me. Now if I could only find one for $200!!!!

Can you link to an image of what you are after?

Although $200 is probably an unrealistic price..

When people speak of "circular fish-eye" they normally mean one where the whole image circle fits within the frame. The Peleng and Sigma 8mm lenses do this for 35mm film and FF digital. There is only one that does it for APS-C, and that is the Sigma 4.5mm.

LOL, how silly of me!!!!! Okay I found a few images of what I think I'd like to be able to do. Maybe you can then advise on what you think I need.

Thanks so much.

OK, the first two are what are commonly called "diagonal" or "full-frame" (before that term got hijacked by digital cameras with the same sized frame as a 35mm film camera) fisheyes. On an APS-C camera these would require a 10mm fisheye, such as the Sigma 10mm or the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye zoom. To save money, some people use the Peleng 8mm, but then to get the sort of image you have posted above, they have to crop the image slightly, as it doesn't quite fill the APS-C frame.

Now the bottom image is one where you can see the whole image circle, the so-called "circular" fisheye. This is what I referred to in post 12, where you'd need the Sigma 4.5mm fisheye on an APS-C camera.
