Here is a portrait of my son that I took to our recent trip to sea world.
CC is welcome as I am still learning and would like any tips / advice to help me progress my skills in photography.

Thanks.
Andrea

i would crop some off the top and a little off the bottom. other than that and the big rock in the foreground it's a good shot.

Hi Andrea,

I think you've done well. Lighting is a bit harsh, but you've avoided over exposure or excessively dark shadows. Good to have a bit of foreground, though perhaps having a hand out to the rock would have bridged the two more. By not being perpendicular to the background you're carrying the eye into and across the shot to the subject. I'd crop the top just above his head... having eye level half way up a shot reduces impact - something tighter will keep the focus on your boy. Could use a few degrees of clockwise rotation too. Cheers, Tony

Thanks everyone. I added the cropped version and Tony - I am unsure by what you mean clockwise rotation? Is this something done through photoshop? I am also just learning that software so please bare with the newbie questions.

Andrea

i think he means just straighten it out a bit. it's easily done in lightroom.

i rotated it so the bamboo in background are parallel with the edge of the photo, i might have went too much but you get the idea
