Just got my 50mm f/1.4 tonight... Just messing around doing some available light shooting. The DOF at f1.4 is pretty challenging to capture a moving kid...

This is my daughter. Whenever she's concentrating (on walking these days) she does this hilarious thing with her tongue...

I had the canon grip as well, but there's really no difference between that and the knockoffs. not like the higher end grips which the OEms are actually made of magnesium. however, the OEm probably has better resale value ;)

I have the Optika grip. It works fine, looks like the Canon, and is 1/2 the price.

I don't use grip. One of the reasons I bought a Rebel and not the higher class bigger and heavier DSLR (like 40D/50D or D90) is its compact body. However, I don't think I would buy 2x pricier Canon grip just for the brand :)

Nice shot. Why don't you reduce the noise in PP?

I usually do with Noise Ninja, but for this particular shot I left it--the noise isn't horrible and I didn't want to lose a lot of detail.

I will say that 1600 is definitely pushing the ISO on the T1i-- one of the main reasons I'm starting to eye the 5D2...

I don't think you'll loose anything, just don't over-process it ;)
You can make the background much cleaner

[edit] To obtain more details you can turn off in-camera noise reduction processing so your images will be sharper (for ISO 800-3200 better shoot RAW), and remove the noise manually with DPP or other software.
Just a suggestion :)

i have my 500D gripped (canon one) and i doubt il take it off. Fits and feels so much better in my hands now.

As for noise you need to learn to process you shots not throw money at the problem. You can easily get noise free images at ISO 1600 on 500D. if you dont want to loose detail you need to simply learn masks in photoshop so you can selective use noise reduction and sharpening.

for example this is what a few mins in photoshop can fix.

noise reduction applied to background only

sharpening applied to hair, eyes, mouth and details on cloths

If you dont know how to process a shot you will prob end up dissapointed even with a 5d mark 2

I know how to use photoshop and aperture to process the living daylights out of an image but would prefer not to need a lot of PP in my images. PS is a great tool, but I'd rather just improve my photography (and eventually my camera) so I can spend my little bit of free time shooting and not slogging through PP.

If a 5D2 will save me a significant amount of PP time--time that I could otherwise spend doing the important things in life-- and I can afford it, I'll take it.

check out my site in my sig... got tutes to show you masks one there and sharpeneing. I plan on doing a noise reduction one soon as well.

My point is you would be surprised how even a 5D mk2 needs processing. It does however need less but the extra time taken on a 500D is minimal. Like i said that took me a couple of mins. Lots of people complain that a 500D, 40D what ever doesn't have good enough ISO capabilities.... what the reality is is that they dont have good enough in-camera processing capabilities.
