2 months ago I was mulling whether to get a Canon SX20, 450D or 500D to replace our well-loved but battered Pro1. After some pros/cons from people on here we took the plunge and bought the most expensive option, the 500D (though with Canon doing a cashback, the 500D was only about £50 more than the 450D if I remember correctly).

Anyway, 2 months on, I can only say it's an awesome bit of kit. Even though the camera does far more than I yet understand I'm loving the responsiveness & sharpness of it (and already mostly going beyond full Auto mode). And compared with the Pro1 I can't believe how good this performs in less-than-perfect light. I've gotta holiday coming up next month and can't wait to spend lots of time experimenting ... (note to self: remember to pack the manual).

Meanwhile, during these dark, cold & wet winter months we've shot 90% of the "test" photos on our new camera of our kids !

All the photos posted by people on this thread are truly inspiring.

is that the same actual grip as this one : http://www.amazon.com …oto&qid=1267307399&sr=1-3 (external link) , because that price is definitely right!

Yep that's the one. Even the supplier is same (47th Street)

I ordered with Batteries cos I had just the one canon battery. You can even use AA cells in it.

I actually ordered the Opteka grip a few days ago, (without the batteries... should've ordered off of Amazon, but oh well) and it should be arriving in a few days. I'd seriously go for the Opteka grip!

By the way, simply out of curiosity, how old are you? Haha.

I love the space jams, and the 4's are my favorite all time. The 7's are alright, but I especially like the way to placed them for the photo, it added something to them, made the shoes a little more interesting.

Ah, I know what you mean. I'm 15, a freshman and am involved in a lot of stuff as well. I live up in a resort town, so I could probably be teaching kids how to ski (seeing as I'm on a junior race team up here), but my Mom doesn't want me to have a job. :\

Haha I hear ya quadwing. Sucks doesn't it?! So I'm at work now and it's at a restaurant and my boss was talking abou. Putting pics up of the food on our website/facebook and was talking about taking meh pics and I'm like "you know I could run home and get my camera and be back in 5 minutes right?" long story short I just spent an hour and a half with the nifty 50 and food, pics to come, still at work right now

Any business with a Facebook page that is updated often is pretty cool--no sarcasm intended. It's a good tactic. It draws the attention of the younger crowd, thus bringing in more customers. Especially with a photographer. There's a Christian Youth Group in my town (I'm not even Christian... I just volunteer my services to them) and I manage their FB page. It's pretty cool actually. Keeps everything moving steadily, and believe it or not, since I've come into the scene, there's been an increase in attendees over the past few months.

yah, the pics are noisy a bit as it wasn't made for the purposes of taking pictures, so I had to take the pics under terrible kitchen flourescent lighting with the 50 1.8, so they are generally at iso 1600 and f/2.8, I'll post a few of the pics now

just some ones that i've processed already

Maybe you should invest into a 430EX II. Although I've only had about two days of experience with it (I'll be getting my camera back shortly, so I'll be able to play with it a lot more), that thing SERIOUSLY helps your shots!
