Hello, I am Diana and this is my maiden post here on POTN. I have been lurking for quite some time...have learned quite a lot. Probably will continue to be a bit of a lurker as I am pretty much as green as you can be in the hobby. Just how green am I? The extent of my knowledge of photography comes from being almost done reading "DSLR's for Dummies." Please stop laughing. Anyway, my darling husband (perhaps having noticed that I purchased a copy of "DSLR's for Dummies" before actually owning a DSLR) walked in the door on April 28, 2009 and surprised me with a box containing the T1i kit, the Nifty Fifty (<---one of the things I have learned here, pretty impressive, huh?), an 8 gb memory card, and a FULLY charged battery. What.A.Guy.

So keeping in mind my earlier request to refrain from laughter (the quakers meeting has begun...and all that jazz) here are some of my first shots with my T1i:

I loooove your attention so much that I do not care that you chopped off my paw.

wow, that wooden piano shot is fabulous! might want to add some darkness in the corners like a vignetting effect in photoshop to draw more attention to the middle of the image

Well, I don't know if this will be a fair representation, because my computer does not quite have the resources to handle the videos files the T1i puts out. I had to convert this to flash video and then, of course, upload it to photobucket and all that that implies but here is one anyway:

P.S. Perhaps one day I will share the story of the junk piano in the yard, hahaha.

***ETA: This was taken with the kit lens, 1280x720 @ 30 fps...but like I said...it's now a flash video...

Cool video, I would be interested in hearing why the piano is chillin next to the bbq pit.

Here is the synopsis (and I promise I will include a few more pictures at the end to warrent the thread bump  )

>Summer of 2005 - Beloved family heirloom piano is being stored in our clean basement. Perhaps waiting for the day it can be inside the home of the musically inclined young sister-in-law who stars in my movie.

>Bulkhead needs replacement. Excavator arrives on schedule to demolish bulkhead & dig it out. His subcontractor, the cement guy, never shows up to pour a new one. We later learn that cement guy had disappeared on a two week cocaine bender.

>That very night torrential downpours & flash flooding. The earth surrounding the former bulkhead gives way in a mudslide, filling our basement with flowing mud & rain water. Oh yeah, and ripping the propane tank off the outside wall, dragging it hissing and expelling unstable, flamable gas into the basement.

>There was some running for our lives involved (I was pregnant at the time), the nice men in the firetrucks were able to keep our home from exploding, but the piano didn't make it, and has been a "lawn ornament" ever since. Good times, good times.

Now on to happier days of playing with T1i (doesn't it sound like a the latest Terminator model?) & my new Tamron lens the other night:

Just a silly snapshot, but I loved the clarity of it:
