Mar 06, 2011 09:59 | #8121 Question: Last night I shot a dance show and tried to shoot in RAW for the first time. The images have a lot more noise than when I shot the same show on Friday in JPEG. Is that due to the fact that the RAW file time has more memory and can hold more data? To correct for this in the future should I try to lower my ISO? To correct for this in the future should I try to lower my ISO? JPEGs usually have some noise reduction done to them. I have my DPP set to apply zero, as I like to do it myself (its probably the same but it makes me feel better). Try opening them in DPP or PS and apply noise reduction. Shane

Mar 06, 2011 10:11 | #8123 I don't have PS or DPP. I have PSE, which won't do RAW. If I convert it to .jpeg, then reduce the noise will it work? Canon 60D|Canon Rebel EOS T1i|50mm f/1.8|28-70mm f/2.8|18-55 f/3.5-5.6|70-200mm IS f/2.8 |600EX Speedlite

Mar 06, 2011 10:17 | #8124 I just tried it. I just had the ISO WAAAAY too high. I think the sentivity of RAW is such that I didn't need to go as high as I usually do when shooting JPEG. I have to chock this one up to experience. Canon 60D|Canon Rebel EOS T1i|50mm f/1.8|28-70mm f/2.8|18-55 f/3.5-5.6|70-200mm IS f/2.8 |600EX Speedlite

Mar 06, 2011 11:00 | #8125 I am so frustrated. I have invested in the best glass, worked to learn to educate myself, and in a dark theater I get a crappy picture with my $1600 lens and my friend gets a beautiful shot with her f/4 lens and everything on auto... canonloader Cream of the Crop More info | Mar 06, 2011 11:08 | #8126 Shooting in RAW is not a magic bullet. You still have to dial in the right settings or it's just crap in jpg or RAW. The reason your jpg's might look better is because the camera does a large amount of processing right in the camera, according to your menu settings. RAW gets no processing, other than what the camera uses to show you in the preview window and only in the preview window, since RAW is not an image file itself. Mitch- ____...^.^...____

Here is where I messed up ISO = 12800 (I know I know...please don't laugh!) The theater was SO dark I couldn't get anything at a lower ISO.
