Just heard from Canon Australia service dept today that they have fixed my camera.
Has been with them for 5 weeks - luckily I still have my old camera.

Anyway they informed me they have had to replace the whole shutter assembly. I was having major "Error 30" issues. Please refer to my old thread regarding this problem

https://photography-on-the.net …673467&highlight=error+30

Hopefully it will be working perfectly again when I receive it next week.

Will my shutter activations now be at "0" ?

Pratically, yes. Whether Canon service will reset the counter? Not sure. From what I deduced from reading all the different fora, they usually only reset the counter if the mirror box is also replaced at the same time.

5 weeks is a fair time. Is this the first time you've been through Canon Australia with something? I haven't and don't need to send anything to them but I've only heard of one person sending something to them (1D3 for the latest fix, IIRC it took 2 or 3 weeks from sent to received back) so I'm not sure how they really are compared to the stories I've read about the US Canon departments.

Hope your 5D2 is all good after this!

Parts for repair are usually short for anything new, whether cars or cameras.

I have sent two cameras and a lens to Canon service in the last two years, quickest return time was 4 weeks.
Camera has just arrived so will go try it out - hopefully all good.

I just recently got a 1DsII shutter replaced and at the Irvine, CA service center, and from ship day back to my doorstep in 4 business days--two of which was transit. :) I've never had anything sent into the Irvine center over the years that took longer than a week.

If you are a Canon Pro member (have to have certain number of pro series cameras) I think they give you turnaround of less than a week or supply you with a loaner in Australia.
