Seems like most birds have dissapeared from my yard these last few weeks.. Grackles and Goldfinches are all that's here for the moment... I'm having a difficult time with Goldfinches and my 400mm now... Exposure are not right... I wanted to venture out this weekend and see what I could find but rain is expected again... Anyways, caught this guy about 25' out from my deck yesterday late afternoon..

Grackles are cool birds. I only get them in my yard in late summer, when they gather for migration. I have to go to the park to see them any other time. Got lots of birds here in my yard though.

You caught the sunlight in the eye and iridescent back feathers... I really enjoy the Grackle and European Starling shots...

Looks like you used a big aperture with not enough DOF. Can't see the EXIF. What do you think is wrong with it?

Nicely done Norman...I sure wish one of these and the starlings would visit my yard.

Thanks... I like them too but away from the feeders... I have one feeder that isn't squirrel proof and that's the one they can get at....

I don't have a problem with this per say Mitch, but American Goldfinches instead... I think part of my problem with them is at days end, (4:00 - 7:00pm) the sun is directly behind me and glaring into the viewfinder as well... I've taken hundreds of GF and most are soft and OOF.. On a tripod with a remote too... Same with Cardinals..

Nice shot Norman. I thought it was cool when they first arrived in my yard but they are making short work of my suet blocks.

I don't care a lot for grackles, but they are pretty in the right light and these are nice shots.

I love their eyes as well, their tails are cool too.

I'm working on capturing the four that come to my feeder, I'm trying to get them in the right spot & light but they are spooky, sure is fun trying though.

All the best,

If you can get the right light I think Grackles are great looking birds. I'm still trying...

All the best,

I'm amazed at just how color hues this bird really has...

I know there are more colors on this bird... Especially green when the light is right... I'm still trying also...
