Just found out Stone Phillips (external link) bought a couple of my shots.

I just got a call from the Wild Heart Gallerie in Carmel. Some months ago they had a competition and two of my shots were included. As it turns out, I didn't win anything, but, the gallery owner called me afterwords and let me know that she liked my shots so much that she would like to keep them hanging after the show. I, of course, said yes.

The shots in question were "The Wrangler" and "The Run", both photos taken at Eaton's Ranch, near Sheridan, Wyoming. During the night the horses are allowed to roam free over the prairies, and at sunrise they are wrangled up and brought back to the corral.

So the call I got said that Mr Phillips has a home near Carmel, and that he took his mom into town for Mother's day and he saw my shots hanging there at the gallery and he bought both immediately.

The owner also asked me for a couple of replacement photographs to refill that spot on her wall!

So, kinda cool!

Nice! My wife actually sat next to him on a flight from Tampa to San Jose, said he was a very cool person.

Yes, when they were accepted to the competition. I would have liked to say that they won something, but they didn't. Still, I think that this turn of events is a nice follow up to that.

When I first started hanging around the face to face club that I am with here, I noticed that the lion's share of shots they enter competitions with are not recent work. I reacted with a "what have you done for me lately" feeling - like, why are you entering a shot you took years ago. Then I realized it: they are winning - and selling - with their "established" work. That just because you took a shot last week, doesn't mean that you ignore the work you did from last year - or the year before that.

So, yes, you are very right - I have posted these photos before, but not everyone has seen them (lots of new members since last year) and since their story has changed I just wanted to give an update.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't complaining. Not at all. Just pointing out that I had seen them before.

In fact, I'm glad you did repost them so I could be sure exactly which images you were talking about even though your description was good and I turned out to be right in my presumptions.

As far as winning contests... ribbons don't taste good.

However selling them will buy things that do! ;)
