Finally gave in ... happened to click into the B&H site, and saw the 5DII was in stock ... ordered one, but thought it might be a mistake (hadn't received an email update that they were in). Two hours later, and I got my shipping confirmation, so guess I got lucky (well, my bank account might not agree).

And, it's scheduled to arrive on my birthday (so how can my husband yell at me?) ;)

It was all the beautiful photos here that sealed my fate.

Congrats, well done! You will be amazed and so will your hubbie. Every time someone posts a new 5D2 photo on the thread, I'm re-blown away. Use it in the best of health.

Got mine today. I feel weird. Charged the battery at work (took some lenses in) but didn't get to even look through the VF. Spotted a 5Dmk1 owner on my way out and showed it to him (in a rush). He took the first photo!

Got home after a couple of drinks with colleagues (mk2 stayed in the bag). Took one photo and one quick video. Started packing for the weekend driving trip (Caterham 7 tour of NW Scotland).

Downloaded LR2.3 as 1.4 doesn't want to play with the 5D2.

Looking forward to tomorrow and the weekend when I can actually get to use it!

Have I really got to the point where new kit is just a tool rather than a toy?

I hope not! ;)

Congrats! Mine just arrived from Adorama today. I am so happy with it already and I already know it's going to be much more enjoyable to lug this around with my 7 month old than the 1d. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to keep the 1d mkII or sell it.

Mine's coming tomorrow from Adorama. Got the BG-E6 grip too so I'm minus $3k in my bank account right now - OUCH! Kinda bummed that it's on the brown truck all day as they don't deliver to my house until 5pm which sucks!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. It arrived - 2 days early!!!!

These pics don't do the camera justice, but considering they are just my first "snaps" after charging the battery, and handheld, I can tell I'm going to like this camera.

Indoors - ISO 3200

Both outdoors - ISO 100

And yes, I know it looks like I over saturated the parrot (LR2) - but I didn't, actually toned it down a tad.

These were taken with the camera on "standard" pic settings.
