Hi, I'm a bit lost and appreciate some help. I'd like to check out the current prices of Canon 50D. From those sites like Amazon (external link), Adorama (external link), B&H (external link), they have quite different prices.

I also notice that there are rebates from Canon. But I don't know how the rebate works. Is it already reflected in the prices in the sites above? Or do I need to mail in to get the rebate? And some of the rebates requires purchase of a Canon printer, too. Yet there are Canon rebates from Canon's website (external link) that is for purchase of just the camera body, right? But those rebates from Canon's website, like this one (scroll down the page of the previous link and click on the link there), do not say much of what to do and how to get $150 back.

Finally, is there any other trustworthy shops selling Canon 50D at a competitive price?

Thank you!

Amazon has the body only for ~$1100, they don't charge tax in most states, and they have free shipping. A pretty good deal.

The prices are 1101.89 for Amazon (but out of stock), 1199 for Adorama (in stock) and 1199.95 for B&H (in stock). My preference would be to buy from B&H, but to save $100 and get free shipping Amazon is tempting.

To get a rebate for the 50D I believe you need to also purchase a lens (as per rebate from Canon's website) or a printer (as per rebates shown on B&H website).

All three of these stores are competitively priced. If you see the camera new in box for much less than this it's likely a scam.

That's one of my questions, too. On the Canon page, it says buyer can rebate from:

Qualifying Products:
EOS 50D
EOS Rebel XSi EF-S 18-55IS Kit
EOS Rebel XS 18-55IS Kit

But the PDF coupon there does not say that a body qualifies for rebate. Another related question is that the PDF coupon does not give you a form to fill out to get the rebate. And I cannot find such a form from Amazon, Adorama or B&H either. Then, how can I get that rebate?

colormaniac,
Check out buydig.com. They are currently selling the 50d with the canon 28-135mm lens for $1249 or just the body only for $1099. It makes more sense though to buy the kit and sell the 28-135mm lens for $250+, making your net cost of the body $1000 or less. glenphoto

Just visited there. I'm afraid Buydig.com has increased the selling price by $100 a moment ago.

The rebate is only available for a purchase with a lens or a printer. Not sure what you're looking at but the rebate form for the 50D/printer combo on the B&H site just needs to be filled in and mailed as per the instructions on the form. The Canon 50D/lens combos are instant rebates at time of purchase. If you look at all the different combinations of 50D + lens kits that B&H sells you'll see "instant rebate" listed for some of them in the column on the right hand side of the screen.

There is no rebate for the purchase of only the body.

I see. Thanks! I don't mind buying the kit lens and then sell it. However, it looks like that doing this I end up paying for the body for (1399.95 - 250)= $1149.95. But I can get a body from Amazon at $1100.

Glenphoto,

Wow, I found it now! That's weird. They show the higher prices and scare customers off before they click on the buttons.

Thanks!

colormaniac,
Glad to be of help. I know it is tricky the way they advertise the price, but the way I noticed it was the different style or print of the numbers on the price. Also, remember whether you buy only the body(for $1099) or the kit(for $1249) you get a free 4gb cf card and you can upgrade the shipping to 3 day ups I believe for only a couple of dollars more. Enjoy the 50d it's a great camera. glenphoto

Claybuster just beat me to it. Roberts imaging has the 50D body for $999 + shipping

I placed an order from them (for some other items) just this morning and already got an email stating that the items have shipped with a tracking number. No calls to try and push any extra accessories, nothing. I bought from them based on recommendations from other members on this forum who spoke very highly of them. We'll see how it goes.

Bingo! I found it this morning and, since I lived in Indiana, I went to the shop and got one immediately. In the evening, I took pictures in a wedding with this new 50D. :D

Though people said that it's not advisable to use a camera that you are not familiar with to do important events like this, I (as an XSi user for 4 months) found the 50D very intuitive.
