New GIMP 2.??????

Hey guys,

I've been hunting for more time than I care to admit, and I just can't fathom out if there's a new GIMP out there?

Recently (last few days) when I look at GIMP hints with screen-shots, they don't look like the version I have (2.6.6)

Does anyone know if 2.8 is out there somewhere, or am I seeing the pre-release (2.7.xxx)?

It works like this, first number is the version, 2nd number is the release. If the 2nd number is even its a stable release, if the 2nd number is odd its a development release.

Current production version that you should get is 2.6.6 (the 3rd number is just bug fixes and patches, so 2.6.0 and 2.6.6 are identical for features). The next stable version will be 2.8 or 3.0 (if 32bit works sooner). In order to get there they are currently developing a 2.7, if you want this you will probably have to download and compile the source code.
