Asking advice, I'm not set up with Paypal so don't see how I could post it here and am trying to sell my year and a half 5D on local Craigslist but I'm only getting scammers and people offering me next to nothing for it.

I first posted it with the BG-E4 grip, all in excellent condition with only the paint worn off on the flash shoe a little and I asked $1,400.

All I got was people asking how much for just the camera so I reposted just the camera for $1250. My friend sold one two weeks ago for $1,350 but I'm still getting no takers.

Also I put my 200L 2.8 which looks basically new for $575 and still more scammers that want me to send it to a third party in Africa and for me to send my Paypal information to them (I don't have Paypal) and lat-te-da it will all be done _ Not!

I have no experience selling camera gear so any input would help.

I do have a buyer coming for my 430EX w/stofen for $70, at least I've sold something.

Also if my 6mo old 35L doesn't seem comfortable on my new MKIII, is $950 a good asking price?

Please help with advice, yes I can sit on all of this gear for a while, it's not an emergency but since I purchased the new camera on my credit card and I hate having debt, I would love to find the best way to sell these things.

You can ask for payment via money order when selling on the forums.

I would not sell your 430EX for $70. I imagine you could get $175-200 here.

Ask for USPS money order and post some of those offers here. I don't believe there are any rules against money orders (which eBay has now banned). I'm sure you'll get takers. $70 for a 430EX is extremely cheap. Heck, I have 2 430EX flashes already and don't need another one, but I'd be willing to buy yours at $70 without thinking twice.

Your prices seem perfectly fine. I'm guessing lack of paypal is what's making the items sell slowly, most people like the convenience of clicking to buy and not having to go to the post office or bank for a money order. Not saying you should get paypal, just offering a possible reason because your prices seem in line with the others I've seen. Of course, the economy seems to be slowing down sales as well. Good luck.

i think both are great prices for the conditions you are selling at (5d + grip). need to put shutter actuations and some pictures would be nice too.

seriously you can't sell your 430ex for $70 unless there's something wrong with it, I'd buy it if you change your mind!!

Obvious, dumb question but why don't you just get set up on Paypal? Easy and takes a couple minutes.

Or, sell it, as someone said above, with payment by money order. Or, sell it and tell the buyer you will take a personal check but that you will hold the check a week or two until it clears.

As said, I would definitely not sell your 430EX for $70. If you listed it here for $160-$180 it would be sold in under 10 minutes if it is nice condition.

Just do a quick search on the sell forums here and you'll get a feel for the going prices...

Sold the flash, guess you're right, I've gotten a lot of response from the ad on that one. I tried setting up on Paypal and they said I was already a member - huh? - so then I tried to follow through and it wouldn't work and I wrote to them and they wrote me a very unsympathetic email about a week later and said I would have to get a new email address and start over - huh - made me very nervous to think I'd use my credit card with them.

I've thought of accepting a money order if it's from the US Post office, then if they forge it, it's federal and seriously serious more than just fraud.

950 is a great price for a 35L, that should sell quick. I think you can easily get $1k if its in good condition. A new one now goes for $1249

give me your email address in a Pm and ill send you a nickel. you'll then get a "payment recieved email in your inbox, and you can follow that to get your paypal info... If you are in fact a member.

Calling Paypal is a better idea than email. it is tuff to dig their phone support number out of the site, but they actually answer and help after a bit. They have ways to verify you and reset your password.

I got a paypal account in like 1997 and never used it for about 6 years... i had to go thru all this before

All done and I had a lovely drive up north to do the exchange with a fellow POTN member, it's all over, and I did in the process trade the 35L for an absolutely pristine 24L so I think I'm done, hmmm-my brother is trying to talk me into selling my tripod and getting a Gitzo Mountaineer and a RRS 55 ball head, when will the insanity stop?
