In this shot, yes, technically, he's fetching. But his heart's not in it. He was doing fine, swimming, bringing the stick back....

...and then he saw a duck.

The look in his eyes here is, "BIRD! A BIRD! MUST GET BIRD!"

He's splashing like that because he's stopped swimming and started running... while in the deep water. :roll:
