but if she ever wants to apply for a government job too, she can use the Veteran status too and gain extra 10 points on the scoring...

She is already eyeballing a further career with the VA. (P.S. She only gets 5 points unless she does a tour in a combat zone.)

And, I showed my student her picture....the one I shared with you all last night. She was floored and loved it and said I made her look beautiful. It was heartwarming.

The daughter of one of my friends decided to do the whole Air Force thing as she wanted to become a doctor. After basic training and her initial Air Force medical schooling....she spent 18 months in Korea, 18 months in Alaska and is now stationed at a base in the state of Washington....she is now on the verge of becoming a full-blown M.D., only having to finished her final year as an intern. The AF picked up the whole tab....she does have to serve 4 additional years on active duty to pay them back, but she will also be a Major....I suspect that will give her a reasonable paycheck.

My dil graduated medical school at OHSU 3 years ago. It is not uncommon to find students who complete college and med school on student loans in debt to the tune of over 200K. Then they have 4 years of residency, and for some an additional 3 years fellowship before beginning a practice on their own. The AF program sounds like a good deal to me!:D

I'm off to take Louie to his temp foster home for while we are gone.

Right now, Louie is sitting on the back of the couch like a cat, looking out the window.

Do you think I should tell the lady that he does that?

glad you found a place for him

I am grading student papers. It is funny that they think I don't realize that they don't use words such as "staunch, inequity, entitiy, ubiquitous"

google reveals plaigarism. Duh, you think?

my mom was a librarian when I was growing up....I knew words then (plus the definitions and how to properly use them in a sentence) that I've forgotten now.

Wow....not only do you now have to serve in combat....

10-Point Preference

Ten points are added to the passing examination score of:

* A veteran who served any time and who (1) has a present service-connected disability or (2) is receiving compensation, disability retirement benefits, or pension from the military or the Department of Veterans Affairs. Individuals who received a Purple Heart qualify as disabled veterans.
* An unmarried spouse of certain deceased veterans, a spouse of a veteran unable to work because of a service-connected disability, and
* a mother of a veteran who died in service or who is permanently and totally disabled.
