Ebay is so funny. I'm just sold something on there. The bid was $125 for the longest time. Within the last 12 seconds it went to $133.01 and then $160.27. I would have been happy with the $125.

Nice, congrats on that.

Chris and us are like 30min away from one another and yet we never see one another. In fact sometimes we pass him on the street and think "we know him don't we..."

I put peanut butter in Amikah's Kong tonight.

It kept her happy for about an hour. And now, even though it is licked clean as a whistle, she won't leave it alone. She has been carrying it around, and right now, even though she is sleeping on my legs, she's got her kong under her chin.
Because, heaven forbid one of the other dogs get it and maybe find some peanut butter in it.

I wonder how Joshua would react. Does the peanut butter get on the carpet?

Permagrin wrote in post #8033090 (external link)
oh yeah we ask them for 3 at the chinese place and once he got this really cool fortune and Dan (this is no joke) got the only negative fortune I've ever heard. It was total doom and gloom (I don't remember what it was but oh my gosh it was funny).

 doom and gloom doesn't sound like a good fortune to me.

I wanted to share this because my wife just reminded me that we do this. The organization is Kiva and they provide micro loans to entrepreneurs world wide. We have been lending out the same $25 for three years now and every time it gets paid back we just send it out again. Micro loans are an incredible boost to many people in developing countries.

I've heard about that before....never looked into it. May now.

I'm nervous and scared. Just found out son #2 (kid #3 not including fur kids) just joined up with the Air Force. He's swearing in Thursday. He's been thinking about it for a while and went through the process last year. He tested high, passed the various other tests and such, but put off the decision until he had a couple of years of college under his belt. He just finished his first year in college and decided to not delay it any longer. He says he want's to get into the medical field and feels this is his best option to do so. Dang.. I wish he would have waited.. Sorry for the rant.. I'm babbling.

Is he going in ROTC or enlisting then through the Boot Strap program while in the Air Force?

He'll be near me if he enlists.

Guineh wrote in post #8035355 (external link)
Sure, just hang them on a barbed wire fence somewhere in Texas, and I'll get to them... eventually..

You are way behind on your work

So that is what that was?

gjl711 wrote in post #8035446 (external link)
He has two years of college credit now and the program he is entering provides an additional 1 1/2 years of medical training. From what i understand he will finish the program with an additional 87 credit hours. There seem to also be opportunities to get into a med school as well if he chooses that route. But then this is the military well known for selling you a great line then sticking a m16 in your hands and shipping you to one of earths armpits.

Some med training is done here also...depending on the field.

That is the one thing I am pushing. The recruiter tried to entice him into a crypto program with a 10k bonus. I kind of asked him to look in the paper and see how many jobs are available for mid-east cryptographers.

Crypto is a great field. That is here also AND he can use it when he gets out of the military. I used to do background checks on the guys here in the military...I'd say about 90% of them stayed on as civilians after separating from the military here on the base doing civil service and getting paid some good money. I couldn't apply to those positions due to not having the required experience in the field, but I could never get it to begin with.:|

You can still go with your son to talk to the recruiter and get everything sorted out. Like anyone says...be sure to get the tech field in writing because when he gets to basic or OCS they'll stick him where they need him. Saw that often with the guys I interviewed. My cousin's fiance was going to enlist, but went back after me and everyone else talked him into going to college first and having the ROTC program pay for it all....he did that. Now he is going JAG in the Air Force.

At one point before my current job...really during the time I was doing background checks...I had a fire in my a$$ about getting into the Air Force as an officer to be an intel officer...pilot was out of the question due to asthma diagnosis that is in military records since I was a dependant so I couldn't lie about it. Anyhow, when I was talking to a Reserves recruiter the guy was trying everything to get me to go enlisted as a Sr. Airman....yeah no. Told the guy get me as an officer or not at all. He told me he'd call me back since intel slots were full. You can assume I never got the call.

Belmondo wrote in post #8035543 (external link)
Of course that could lead into something with one of the intelligence services, and I seriously doubt they advertise much in the help wanted ads.

There are some 'wanted ads' here....just have to know where to look. They don't advertise the website....but I know it.

The daughter of one of my friends decided to do the whole Air Force thing as she wanted to become a doctor. After basic training and her initial Air Force medical schooling....she spent 18 months in Korea, 18 months in Alaska and is now stationed at a base in the state of Washington....she is now on the verge of becoming a full-blown M.D., only having to finished her final year as an intern. The AF picked up the whole tab....she does have to serve 4 additional years on active duty to pay them back, but she will also be a Major....I suspect that will give her a reasonable paycheck.

Yes. Yes they will. That is a good way to do it.

thanks guys.

I'm feeling a little better.

Dan's taken Kona to class (I don't know how that will go...Kona doesn't mind him so well & D gets way frustrated) and I'm trying to clean the house for company. And do laundry and everything so that I can get to bed early and head out to Portland in time tomorrow.

I forgot to mention that Kona was kept hungry today (orders) and when he's hungry he behaves badly...so that's gonna go over well in class  Although he'll have plenty of treats to work for so perhaps it wasn't so dumb afterall.
