Lunchtime challenge?

The dim sum I had for lunch the other day wasn't photogenic .. does dessert count? It wasn't healthy, but boy was it good... and beautifully plated!

It was an apple tarte with a scoop of frozen custard topped with an orchid -- almost too pretty to eat, but not quite, ha!

Interesting! And frozen custard with an orchid, huh? Sounds VERY luxurious to me! Think I'll stick to sushi....

Frozen custard is just fancy vanilla ice cream.. too bad I didn't have my camera the other night, a friend took me out for a teppan (sp? -- where they cook the dinner in front of you as entertainment) dinner at a local Japanese restaurant -- we didn't have sushi, but we did have sake. Sushi is good too tho!

As to Japanese food, it was only after I came here that I realised how little I knew about what they eat here. Granted, we do try to have sashimi (raw fish, not on top of a lump of rice) every Friday night, but their usual menus contain a far wider variety of vegetables (and ways of cooking them) than I expected.

The only down-side is that herbs are still, as yet, too "exotic" for most....so flavour tends to be based on sweet or salt. But I'm working on that one!

Funny, talking about veggies... I just sat down with a bowl of steamed broccoli and cauliflower .. I would post a shot to prove I'm truly eating something healthy (gotta make up for that apple tarte, y'know), but I think most can easily visualize a bowl of broccoli and cauliflower on their own.

Also, it looks very similar to restaurants we have here called nabe, where you grill the food at your table, and I'd never seen it before coming to Japan.

at a Korean bbq buffet in Riverside, CA.
and yes we cooked the food in front of us
all is great until you get in your car and you still smell like BBQ hahaha

That's the ONE problem.
If I go there during the day, Missus Skygod instantly knows I've been due to the smell....and that's before she notices the stench of the raw garlic we grate into the dipping sauce!

Oh man I love smelling like korean bbq - I wish they'd bottle that smell or turn it into a cologne or something...
