No mater what kind of search I make on ebay, this storbe setup (external link) comes on top of the search list. I am specticle about when this happens. On second look the set looks attractive and reasonably priced. Has anyone had hands on this set and what do you think about it. My aim is to use this for a home setup so not to be used intensively.

Personally, I'd avoid any of those no-name eBay kits. Many of them have non-replaceable flash tubes, so if you burn one out... you're up the creek. Who are you going to send it to if you need repair/service in 13 months? I'm all about saving money, but I'd look into other kits on the budget end that are better quality, and have a company you can contact for parts/service if/when the need arises.

Also, with lighting, you're always going to want to add different modifiers and things to have more control over your lighting. With these, who knows what type of mount they have and if any other modifiers will fit.

I personally use the Interfit EX150 Mk II kit 3-light kit that is a little more (they have a 2-light kit as well), but IMO should be a lot better quality. If you need service, they seem to do well from what I've heard from those on here who use Interfit lights. They are very responsive to email questions from my experience. The EX150's I have use Elinchrom mounts, so there are tons of modifiers available, and the flash tubes/modeling lights are readily available to purchase from B&H/Adorama/etc if I need a replacement. No, it's not a top of the line kit... but on a budget, or if you're just starting out... IMO it's a great option. So are the kits from Calumet and Adorama (Flashpoint), so you might want to check those out too.

I seem to remember someone on here who bought a cheap eBay set for doing a single shoot, and was pleased with it. But for something that you'll want a few years of use out of, I'd stay away.

Start here:

Then get some white foam board from the dollar store to use as a reflector. You can add more lights later as your budget permits.
