looking to consolidate all my 2's and 4's into some larger cards.

Sandisk emailed me a sale ad...they have 8GB Ultra II's for about $37 or so. Usually, though, you're sometimes able to get their Extreme III 8GB for the same price. FWIW, I have a few 4GB Ultra II's and they work just fine...never had a failure.

Kingston and/or Transcend and/or RiData @ Newegg. No need to screw around with Sandisk rebates for the prices to be good...and all three brands are solid.

Yeah...forgot to mention newegg.com. Can't speak for Kingston or Transcend, but I have used a lot of 4 GB Ridata cards and never once had a failure. Newegg has 233x 8GB Ridata's for $28 each...just bought two more myself.

I've used Ultra II's for awhile now (along with Extreme III). I use my Extreme III's more often just because I have more of them and because they are of larger capacity. Actually the real reason is Digger Phelps signed my CF card at an ESPN shoot and I don't want it to rub off--horrible reason .

on the RIDATA cards. any issues with speed. I've read a few reviews online that the write speeds are real slow.

any thoughts.?

If you are willing to go the rebate route, Sandisk has rebates on their Extreme III and IV cards purchased through June 27, 2009 from a qualified dealer. B&H and Beach Camera have the Extreme III 8GB cards for $54.39. Two after rebate would be $68.78 ($34.39 each). Three after rebate would be $83.17 ($27.72 each).

In my case, I purchased three of the cards above from Beach Camera through eBay (same price as ordering direct through their web site). Because of that, I was able to apply a 13% live.com cashback, saving an additional $21. Final cost for all three after rebate and live.com cashback was $61. Not the spectacular deal some were getting last year when the live.com cashback was 25% or more, but still a good deal regardless.

Amazon had the Kingston 8G 133x cards for $18 a month or 2 ago. Now 19.98

What happened? How did it failed? During shooting or uploading?
How long have you been using it until it fail?
cuz I just bought one of this.

i owned it less than a year. i had it in a 1ds III and i shot some images about 30. it was a wedding, no less. when i went back to review them, it was corrupt.

put in the other 16 gb kingston same thing happened.

put in other brand cf cards, worked like a champ.

I picked up Sandisk 8gb Ex III 30mb/s cards at Costco for $39.99 each, w/ no rebate to wait for. This was ~ a month ago.
