What would you do? Canon 16-35 or 24-70?
Hi guys, I've answered a ton of "which lens to buy" questions, so I think it's fair I pose a question back.
I've got 4 lenses (listed in my sig') and I've decided I need to fund another body (5D2 or 50D, depending on the success of my funding) so I am SELLING either the 24-70L or the 16-35L. I want 2 bodies, and no time wasted by lens switching.
I've owned the 16-35 for a little over a week and have had only one day to put it to use. Used it at a concert. I usually do weddings, so being distanced and stealthy applied about the same as how I shot at the concert. I found that the 70mm on the 24-70 was totally useless. I was either shooting wide or far. This made me ponder... does the 24-70 have much application if you own an ultra wide zoom and a telephoto zoom? This gets trickier when you also have a 50mm prime with equal sharpness (the 50mm 1.4).
Don't get me wrong, I love the 24-70 for all of the reasons it's so popular. But I'm thinking with the lenses I have, I can probably get away without it.
I've got kids (expensive) and a wife (expensive) and of course bills. I can't fuss around with equipment that might not get used and allows me to cash in on more important equipment (new body). Sooo, yeah, tough questions... I just have to ask... what would you do?
Here are my lens scenarios after making my sale:
