I found this in our local Craigslist ad.

It is a 5D MII with a 24-105L lens. Camera has 250 clicks on it. Completely mint condition. All packaging and books.

Heres the shocker.........all for $1300 bucks.

The reply from seller:

Hello,

I still have the canon gear. But the thing is that I'm in Italy for my school (I have it with me).

The price is $1,300.00 USD.
I hope you are still interested and we can make the deal happen right away.
Obviously we need a safe way to complete this deal that will allow us to make sure we receive what we are after.
I have found a way for us to complete the deal fast (3 days) and easy. The solution is a
worldwide delivery company called Royal Mail. Royal Mail is similar to FedEx, DHL or UPS and they will provide assistance in handling the payment and delivery of the canon gear.
With this procedure you will be able to check the canon gear before I receive the payment.

Like I said, I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the canon gear right away.
Let me know what you think

Sounds like a scam if I've ever seen one!

It's a scam and has been around for some time.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

They told you they would mail it through ups like service? If they did, I laugh at their stupidity.

Kind of how one guy scammed a scammer with a p-p-powerbook (external link).

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

At least scams are still easy to detect if you are an informed buyer!

A friend of mine replied to that one fully knowing it was a scam, and got that reply, here's what he sent in reply:

Adam,

You go to Politecnico di Milano? Thats funny, a buddy of mine that goes to school with me here is on exchange there, as well. Where do you go to school here in the states? He goes to FIT in NYC.

Anyways - when would you be available to meet up? I can ask him to check out the equipment for me, so that you don't even need to bother with Royal Mail.

Dave

Surprise surprise, he never got a reply.

here's a hint: If you ever have to go and type up a thread asking if something is a scam, then just run the other way.
