sapearl - I find the discussions interesting, as I also play guitar and read similar discussions about "tone" on guitar forums. There are a lot of parallels to photography - just as "art" is very subjective and open to interpretation, "tone" is an intensely personal/subjective thing and no two people hear it (or prefer it) the exact same way. There are endless discussions about how tiny little changes in a guitar or amplifier effect the tone - nitro vs. poly finishes, different tonewoods, maple vs. rosewood necks, different types of capacitors, etc. It's a very similar concept to what I see referred to here as "measurebating" in the camera world, and the GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) is just as endless - and just as expensive!
