i use the Canon hand strap with my 5d, but at times when i have my 70-200 2.8 attached....it gets heavy! so i wanted to be able to "clip" on a neck strap w/o taking out the hand strap.

is there such a neck strap that would fit my needs?

If you are using a Canon E-1 handstrap, you can attach any neckstrap. It has a connector on it for this purpose and is outlined in the instructions. I use it with my cameras.

Here is a link to show you how --->http://www.amazon.com …_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0 (external link)

That piece is integral to the handstrap whether you use a neckstrap or not. You need that piece to secure the straps on the E1, so if you are using the E1 you have it. I would take a closer look if I were you.

no, i don't. i distinctly remember having two pieces. the one piece i currently have is the plastic one, but i've misplaced the metal piece you speak of.

I guess you are right, you don't actually need it. Try looking through Canon's catalog or call them for the part number. Shouldn't cost too much.

Definitely not integral at all.

You might be able to order one from Canon, I used to have their parts desk # in my old phone but not anymore. They sell random little odds and ends (sync port caps for example) and they're usually cheap ($0.20 or $0.30 plus a tiny bit for shipping, they just toss em in an envelope).

I just googled a bit myself, cannot confirm if this is the number I used to use but you can give it a shot. 732-521-7230 M-F 9-5.

If you call Canon support they might be able to give you the # for the parts desk. From what I found that should be the number for the Jamesburg location.

edit: after a bit more searching I'm nearly certain that's the # you'll want but like I said I don't remember from my own experience. It's been years since I called them for anything.

Yes, I acknowledged my error in a subsequent post after looking at mine and gave him the same suggestion to look at Canon's catalog. Looking at the diagram, I perceived it to be integral. My mistake.
