D 30 11 x 14 Prints

Hi,

can I get 11 x 14 prints in good quality ? And what must I do. Printer resolution etc. I have an Epson 1270.

Perhaps no one has responded as your question begs a thorough education in digital printing as a response. Certainly the D30 is capable of excellent images worthy of large, high quality prints. You need to uderstand the printing process; books on digital photography will help here. Here is a couple of very short tutorials as a start.

After cropping and color adjustments you will need to resize to approximately 10.8X14.4" at 240 dpi. (have to leave room for printer margins on the 1270). Then sharpen with unsharp mask and print. Ah there is the color calibration issue too with your monitor & printer. These are all very large topics......

I usually keep my D30 enlargements at the 180dpi that is standard for an 8x10 crop. I have gotten some absolutely gorgeous shots which have blown up beautifully on my Epsn 1270. Detail is remarkable due to the cleanliness of the images.

Just a couple of things that I have found when doing a blow-up:

Never sharpen an image before you upsize it.
Purchase Genuine Fractals - it provides a much cleaner image than Bicubic interpolatio provided by PS.
If you have the photograph processed by an outside party (i.e. make a chemical print) - call them and find out what resolution that you need to have the image upscaled to for their equipment.

I just received first test prints from IFI online lab, various sizes and a couple of 35x50cm posters, too, printed from D30 files (RAW, low sharpness -> sharpening in PS). I wish I could show the prints to you: they are absolutely fantastic - they have some very sophisticated upsampling inbuilt on their printer so no Genuine Fractals or similar were needed. Paper they use is glossy photo paper which has no fade whatsoever (laser technology). They also provide an ICC profile on their web page, which means when you apply it you'll get exactly what you see on your monitor.

I'll sell my Epson ASAP, it can't get even close.

Hello from Iowa in the US. This site is an inspiration. I hope you can help my wife and I with our current challenge which is B&W and color printing. I won't go into everything that we have tried but I would appreciate anything that you can tell us about the on-line lab that you have discovered. Since we won't be able to use them can you say what technology they use. Hopefully we can find someone comparable over here.
