Have any of you folks tried the Eye-Fi wireless card with any of the above cameras?

Am too cheap to shell out for the WFT grips for the above, so Eye-Fi it is ;) with appropriate CF adapter, of course.

Tell it like it is, the good stuff and the not so great stuff. I can forsee one minor issue, which is range especially since the card is encased in metal, which really screws with WLAN.

How's the average range like? Can I get say, 20 feet out of it?

I guess it depends on your environment, camera, and wi-fi setup, but I've got 15-20 feet with mine. Reliably, within 10 feet is best.

Thanks, 10ft is pretty short - might not be any better than the USB cable solution I'm using now. I can get 15ft on a USB cable and the only problem we have is people tripping on it.

Can you use it with Live View? What about instantaneous downloads?

Thanks,
dan

You guys are aware that Eye-fi does not work with RAW? And that file transfer speeds will not keep up with typical digital machine gun shooting? Or that files must be transferred to one of several photo storage locations, not merely a link direct to your PC?

Yes, it will not transfer RAW files, only jpgs. The speed will definitely not keep up with spray and pray or sport style shooting, but it's quick enough for most normal applications.

Wilt, that's not true - it can automatically upload the images to either of several online photo sites or a local folder on your laptop, or both.

If you set your camera settings to RAW + Jpg, it will leave the RAW files on the card and only upload the jpgs.

Dan, yes you can use it with LiveView and not sure what you mean by instantaneous downloads?

Todd,
What I meant by instantaneous downloads was does it start sending the files the moment you click the shutter button or do you have to transfer each one manually with software. By reading what you wrote, it sounds like it transfers instantaneously but the speed is slow.

Sounds very interesting.

Thanks,
dan

Be sure to check out that... looks awfully cool. I am particularly excited about doing time-lapse stuff with this.

I have the DSLR Remote -- works just as advertised. Pretty cool.

Just out of curiosity, doesn't EOS utility give you teh same functionality, time-lapse wise?

Yes, it does... however I sort of misspoke, as I plan on using it for that too... but my main interest will be in using it with LiveView to do light painting with.

Being able to see what your painting, as you're doing it in the frame, will be awesome.

Plus, in my experience, Canon's software bites hard... especially on a mac.
