I have a new 50D, and while I know it's not as rugged as one of the old film cameras, just how tender is it?
I read that dust is the arch-enemy. Anything else in particular?

A 40D, a 30D, some nice glass and a great Shooting Partner.

Dust isn't a problem, water to a lesser extent, and it can take bumps with no problems. Also no need for a battery (if you can shoot without a meter). But as other has said, the digitals are ever bit as good as the film cams in terms of ruggedness.
